Bravo LMC Alumnus conductor Darrell Ang on your continuing success...........!!DARRELL ANG: PROMINENCE IN CHINA

SICHUAN SYMPHONY ARTISTIC DIRECTOR & CHIEF CONDUCTOR Darrell Ang was earlier this year selected by China’s Ministry of Culture as one of the recipients of its highest award to foreign talent (or Chinese professionals living abroad): the "Distinguished Cultural Talents Introduction Program". Ang, born in Singapore, remains one of five such distinguished talents (and the first in Sichuan Province) in the field of "Culture: Western Music", joining the ranks of highly-respected figures in the industry such as composer/conductor Tan Dun, conductor Lü Jia and violinist Lü Siqing. Since his tenure began in December 2016, the Sichuan Symphony has quickly risen in prominence among the country's top orchestras. Last year, they made an appearance in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands Theatre with superstar Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho, and this year will tour the United States.

The "Distinguished Cultural Talents Introduction Program" is a significant initiative launched by China's Ministry of Culture in 2016 to introduce more foreign talents in all fields, promoting and boosting industries nationwide. It plans to introduce between five and ten such highly influential foreign cultural talents, such as artistic directors, senior researchers, art managers, or designers each year. Each nomination brings with it prestige as well as state-approved funding for projects related to the selected nominee's discipline, to be employed in a manner which will boost the recipient's pursuits in excellence.

Simultaneously, Darrell Ang was also selected by China's Central Communist Party's Organization Department to join its “Thousand Talents Project”. This project plans to introduce about 2000 overseas talents - experts and scholars in all fields who have served as professors at famous universities and/or research institutes abroad, as well as professional and technical personnel and those in senior management positions in internationally renowned corporations and financial institutions. Likewise, he is one of only five candidates from Sichuan Province.
